Provide swift, professional, and courteous police services for the Vernon Police Department, enforcing laws, maintaining peace and safety, and responding to calls for service. This role involves patrol, interventions, investigations, and traffic regulation.
Responsibilities
- Enforce state and federal laws and City regulations, performing work according to VPD policies to enforce laws, preserve peace, and solve problems.
- Deliver community-oriented police services, partnering with the community to improve quality of life.
- Preserve community peace through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, and arrest.
- Patrol the City, looking for unusual and suspicious activities and persons, recognizing criminal activities and suspects.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, investigating and documenting citizen complaints, traffic incidents, crimes, and dangerous activities.
- Investigate crimes and accidents; secure and process crime and accident scenes, and identify and collect evidence.
- Arrest law violators; transport and process suspects, victims and prisoners.
- Complete detailed reports and required paperwork; testify in court as directed.
- Maintain VPD vehicle and equipment according to Department standards.
- Assist and coordinate with other emergency services personnel, outside organizations, and federal, state, and local law enforcement.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of training and Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
- Basic POST certificate
- Valid California State Driver’s License
- Recent California State Police Academy graduate or current California Police Officer
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND completion of training and Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Basic POST certificate.
