Plumbing Inspector

About This Role

The Plumbing Inspector will ensure compliance with Michigan Plumbing Codes by reviewing permit applications, conducting field inspections, and advising on necessary corrections for plumbing systems in commercial and industrial settings.

Responsibilities

• Review applications for plumbing permits to ensure conformity with codes and regulations
• Issue permits and perform field safety inspections of plumbing work
• Conduct periodic inspections of commercial and industrial occupancies for plumbing code conformance
• Review residential and commercial plumbing plans
• Maintain billing procedures for permit fees
• Advise owners on necessary corrections to conform to state codes
• Disconnect any plumbing system that is dangerous to life or property
• Answer questions from contractors, public, and other parties
• Check and approve blueprints for proposed construction

Requirements

• Knowledgeable of the Michigan Plumbing Codes and related code standards
• Ability to locate & correct defects in plumbing systems
• Ability to interpret technical sketches
• Ability to enforce regulations
• Meet minimum eligibility requirements in accordance with State Act #54 for Plumbing Inspector and Plan Reviewer registration
• Possess and maintain a valid Journeyman or Master's Plumbing License
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Six (6) years of experience as a journey level plumber; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice to Have

• ICC certification as a plumbing inspector
