About This Role

Perform a variety of shop and shipboard pipefitter trade functions, including the repair, removal, and installation of structural materials and fabrication of complex fluid system piping, using brazing and cutting equipment under direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Apply basic pipefitting and brazing processes to join, fabricate, or repair fluid system piping and associated hangers and supports
  • Fit straight pipe runs between brazed, welded or mechanical fittings
  • Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, and specification requirements to determine materials and construction processes
  • Lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rules, square, scribe or templates
  • Position pieces be welded or brazed into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Maintain certification in required brazing procedures
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or equivalent
  • 1+ years of related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of brazing standards and procedures
  • Skill to make acceptable brazes as determined by either peel test or UT test
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination
  • 1+ years of related experience and preferred experience working in the marine fitter trade gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training
