This role supports pharmacy operations at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, primarily in the Outpatient Department, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician will be responsible for filling medication orders, managing inventory, utilizing pharmacy systems, and ensuring timely delivery of medications and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Practice as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standards
- Fill medication orders according to policy, while gaining proficiency with advanced prescriptions
- Ensure timely delivery and/or completion of medication orders and/or supplies
- Utilize multiple systems such as EHR (Electronic Health Record, Inventory Management Systems and other systems to complete and document duties
- Maintain the Pharmacy inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation of stock and expiration date checking
- Perform and document quality control steps as required (e.g., barcode scanning, etc.)
- Perform cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned
- Train other employees as assigned
- Communicate and escalate issues or problems
- Respond to and manage questions from patients and triaging calls from providers
- Manage assigned claims-related adjudication issues
Requirements
- Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations
- Ability to utilize pharmacy technology systems
- Ability to develop proficiency and mastery of compounding of non-sterile products
- Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution or escalation to the appropriate resource
- Ability to treat all others with professionalism and respect
- Ability to effectively work within a collaborative team-focused environment
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No prior work experience as a pharmacy technician is required
