About This Role

This role supports pharmacy operations at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, primarily in the Outpatient Department, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician will be responsible for filling medication orders, managing inventory, utilizing pharmacy systems, and ensuring timely delivery of medications and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Practice as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standards
  • Fill medication orders according to policy, while gaining proficiency with advanced prescriptions
  • Ensure timely delivery and/or completion of medication orders and/or supplies
  • Utilize multiple systems such as EHR (Electronic Health Record, Inventory Management Systems and other systems to complete and document duties
  • Maintain the Pharmacy inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation of stock and expiration date checking
  • Perform and document quality control steps as required (e.g., barcode scanning, etc.)
  • Perform cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned
  • Train other employees as assigned
  • Communicate and escalate issues or problems
  • Respond to and manage questions from patients and triaging calls from providers
  • Manage assigned claims-related adjudication issues

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to utilize pharmacy technology systems
  • Ability to develop proficiency and mastery of compounding of non-sterile products
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution or escalation to the appropriate resource
  • Ability to treat all others with professionalism and respect
  • Ability to effectively work within a collaborative team-focused environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No prior work experience as a pharmacy technician is required
