About This Role

This Pharmacy Technician I Float position assists pharmacists in providing excellent customer service to patients, handling prescription processing, managing inventory, and ensuring medication security across various Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center sites.

Responsibilities

  • Read and verify prescriptions, typing new ones and creating labels using software
  • Communicate politely and discreetly with patients, clarifying questions and referring medication-related inquiries to pharmacists
  • Translate medication information between patients and pharmacists as needed
  • Assist staff pharmacists in translating sensitive and confidential medical information via telephone
  • Cover other pharmacy technician positions at different sites temporarily as needed
  • Maintain security of the work area, ensuring the pharmacy is locked when a pharmacist is not present
  • Maintain the highest possible degree of accuracy with all written, spoken, and typed information
  • Ensure medications are stored properly and pull expired medications at least monthly
  • Maintain inventory by ordering drugs daily and keeping records
  • Accurately document all transactions
  • Prepare medications for provider administration or dispensing
  • Maintain the IMP (Indigent Medication Program) system, ensuring forms are available and completing paperwork
  • Notify and contact patients regarding IMP medications and return/dispose of unpicked up or discontinued IMP meds
  • Courier prescriptions as part of the pharmacy delivery service, potentially using company or personal vehicles
  • Handle protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written
  • Ability to obtain a Pharmacy Technician license from the Oregon Board of Pharmacy within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to become a Nationally Certified Technician no later than the second June 30 from the license issuance date
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License, able to become part of Center’s insurance policy
  • Proof of liability insurance
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and/or use of company vehicle
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support Certification (must maintain current certification with a recognized provider)
  • Must be over 21 years of age
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience as pharmacy technician in a busy pharmacy environment working with patients and professional/technical staff (including order entry, filling prescriptions, insurance preparation, ordering/returns/stocking) preferred.
