This leadership role involves overseeing all aspects of Personal Care unit operations, inspiring and guiding a dedicated care team to deliver high-quality, resident-centered services while ensuring compliance with state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and operational management of the Personal Care unit, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of residents
- Maintain an active leadership presence on the Personal Care unit, averaging at least 20 hours per week
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families by addressing concerns promptly and handling difficult interactions with professionalism and compassion
- Ensure full compliance with PA Department of Human Services Personal Care Home regulations and organizational policies; serve as the primary contact for DHS licensing representatives
- Maintain continuous survey readiness, oversee required documentation, coordinate licensing surveys, and manage follow-up requests
- Supervise, support, and evaluate Personal Care staff, including interviewing candidates, addressing performance issues, preparing schedules, and leading staff meetings
- Lead orientation, medication administration training, annual education, and ongoing competency assessments; ensure CPR and First Aid compliance
- Develop and implement an annual training plan and maintain accurate documentation of all required staff training and competencies
- Ensure all required resident documentation is complete and current, including admissions materials, assessments, contracts, and medical evaluations
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized support plans to meet each resident’s needs and preferences
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration, Human Services, Nursing, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Current Personal Care Home Administrator certification or license
- Completion of a state-approved administrator training program
- Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience in personal care, assisted living, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting
- Working knowledge of state Personal Care Home regulations and resident rights
- Experience overseeing resident care, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with electronic health records, documentation, and basic computer applications
- Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and remain effective in high-pressure or emergency situations
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends based on operational needs
- Ability to follow universal precautions, including use of personal protective equipment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Human Services, Nursing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as permitted by state regulations
- Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience in personal care, assisted living, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting
