Coordinates and performs administrative, registration, and financial support duties for the ED & Admitting unit at Connecticut Children's. This role involves interpreting department policies, ensuring accurate patient data, and providing compassionate support to patients and families.
Responsibilities
- Provide general receptionist, secretarial support or Health Unit Coordinator functions following department protocol
- Perform administrative support activities, responding with tact and discretion to patient and family needs
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality by abiding by HIPAA Policies
- Collect and enter accurate demographic, guarantor, and financial data for various patient cases and appointments
- Verify all required insurance and billing information and use proper payer plan codes
- Generate all necessary forms for patient visits and obtain required signatures for Assignment/Authorization and consent
- Perform pre-registration for scheduled patients and register patients adhering to standard department procedure
- Make corrections and updates to patient information in ADT systems as necessary
- Attempt to collect patient liability and co-payment on all accounts at the designated collection point
- Document thorough, clear, explanatory notes regarding incomplete information and insurance verification
- Follow-up on open items to resolve outstanding issues and complete files
- Review and work assigned work queues to ensure accurate registration information at time of visit/billing
- Schedule routine appointments either in person or via telephone and with other areas of the hospital
- Arrive patients for their appointment in the ADT system and verify demographic/insurance information
- Answer telephone, triage calls, and ensure all consent and privacy forms are signed
- Enter routine to complex patient charges into the billing system for physician or care provider visits
- Verify insurance plans using various methods (RTE, web-based, telecommunications)
- Investigate patient insurance coverage and manage the process to maximize payment from commercial and managed care plans
- Refer patients/families to DSS and/or Financial Counselor for assistance
- Post payments in the ADT system and provide receipts
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3-5 years directly related customer service experience
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
- Knowledge of ADT systems and Insurance Verification systems
- Knowledge of Managed Care, referral/pre-certification/authorization process
- Knowledge of HIPAA
- Computer, typing, data entry skills
- Excellent telephone and communication skills
- Ability to handle a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Ability to work in a team environment alongside multiple disciplines
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school
- 3-5 years directly related customer service experience
