About This Role

This part-time Park Ranger position involves patrolling city parks and beaches, enforcing rules and regulations, providing customer service and education, and managing park opening and closing procedures. The role requires independent work and frequent public interaction to ensure park safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol park facilities for unsafe and deteriorating conditions in City of Deerfield Beach parks and facilities, reporting inspection results verbally and in writing
  • Provide customer service and act as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of park information, rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes
  • Educate park visitors on park amenities, safety rules, and regulations
  • Issue notices of park exclusions for violations and determine need for and call for police assistance
  • Correct and/or report any conditions that involve damage, theft, vandalism, or hazard
  • Complete incident reports and other routine documentation
  • Direct vehicle and boat traffic inside park boundaries, and aid motorists and boaters as required
  • Coordinate efforts with law enforcement, park and recreation, and other city departments and staff
  • Drive to various parks facilities at various hours (day and night) and open and close/secure City of Deerfield Beach parks and its facilities as scheduled
  • Operate and effectively communicate via two-way radio

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years of customer service and/or Park Ranger experience or equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certifications within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of city practices, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of city safety rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes
  • Ability to work any assigned shift/any assigned area, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent
  • Three (3) years of customer service and/or Park Ranger experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
