Park Maintenance Supervisor

About This Role

Supervise and coordinate grounds and facility maintenance for parks, ball fields, playgrounds, and recreation centers. This role involves directing maintenance staff, ensuring safety standards, and performing hands-on semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate a crew of full-time and part-time workers in the repair and maintenance of parks and associated facilities.
• Ensure work is accomplished according to OSHA and departmental safety standards and that facilities are free of public hazards.
• Plan work projects, inspect facilities daily and weekly, determine needs, and make daily assignments.
• Train, coach, review, and evaluate staff performance, including conducting performance evaluations and participating in hiring.
• Perform work tasks including mowing grass, trimming shrubs and trees, watering, and assisting with horticultural practices.
• Perform routine maintenance, minor construction, and repair duties on recreational facilities, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Purchase supplies as needed and provide recommendations on maintenance needs for the annual budget.
• Coordinate and assist with setting up for special events, including loading and arranging equipment and structures.
• Assist the public by providing directions and information on events.
• Clean park buildings, including restrooms.
• Operate a variety of maintenance equipment, including riding mowers, weed eaters, hand and power tools, tractors, and pick-up trucks.
• Document work activities and time records electronically.
• Assist Director in oversight of contractors performing maintenance and construction.

Requirements

• Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment for parks and recreation maintenance
• Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and hazards
• Working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades
• Skill in the use and care of varied equipment and tools
• Ability to supervise parks maintenance staff

Qualifications

• High school graduation and considerable related experience
• Considerable related experience
