This Paraprofessional position provides essential support to the Psychology department's faculty, staff, and students by assisting with instructional activities, coordinating animal care, maintaining lab resources, and contributing to departmental administration. The role is crucial for the smooth operation of psychology and neuroscience courses and academic events.
Responsibilities
- Assist Psychology faculty with instructional support including running labs, maintaining equipment, arranging classrooms, preparing materials, and proctoring exams
- Coordinate daily health checks and care of animal colonies, including food restriction and handling of rats for Introduction to Psychology labs
- Maintain and update a repository of Introduction to Psychology lab exercises and the student lending library for psychology books
- Coordinate, organize, and run course-based community-based learning and outreach initiatives
- Maintain departmental facilities such as classrooms, labs, bulletin boards, and storage areas, and troubleshoot technology problems
- Maintain and update official social media communication for departmental news (e.g., Twitter, Instagram accounts)
- Represent the department and majors at Admissions and academic affairs events
- Assist the Chair and Administrative Assistant with departmental administrative duties as needed
Requirements
- Good communication skills
- Sense of responsibility and commitment to excellence
- Ability to manage time and work priorities
- Ability to work with rats and animal tissues
- Ability to comply with regulations concerning chemicals, biological materials, and animal research safety
- Proficient with common computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds
- Ability to perform prolonged standing/sitting, use a computer, and lift up to 50lbs
- Prepared for exposure to chemical, biological, animal, and/or other hazards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree

- Familiarity with the Colorado College Psychology and Neuroscience programs and the Block Plan
