About This Role

Provide essential support and assistance to special education teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities in a resource room setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in meeting instructional, educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities
  • Provide instructional support and assistance in teaching and learning in small or large group situations
  • Assist teachers with duties related to student instruction, such as observing, recording data, and classroom preparation
  • Implement plans, procedures, strategies, or tasks as directed by an administrator or certificated staff
  • Maintain safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas including cafeteria, playground, and corridors
  • Utilize behavior management plans of classrooms, building, and programs
  • Provide information requested by teachers/administrators for IEP development
  • Assist in preparation of materials designated in the lesson plan
  • Work collaboratively with Special Education teacher, classroom teachers, and other paraeducators
  • Communicate with Special Education teachers regarding student progress and instructional plans

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly
  • Highly qualified upon hire into a continuing position as defined by state law (e.g., 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits, Associate degree, or passing specific assessments)

Certifications

Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly (Required) ETS ParaPro Praxis Assessment (qualifying score of at least 455) (Required) Master Teacher Assessments (2 assessments, qualifying score of at least 65%) (Required) Pearson Paraprofessional assessment (Required) Apprenticeship as a paraeducator in a Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council registered program (Required)
