The Paraeducator - Mainstream Special Education SUPPORT assists certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for special education students in mainstream settings. This role involves instructing students, monitoring progress, and supervising activities to promote student understanding and appropriate behavior.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students individually or in small groups to promote understanding of materials.
- Communicate with certificated staff on student progress; adjust methods for students with disabilities.
- Assist certificated staff in maintaining student records, logs, charts, and assignments.
- Supervise student behavior in various school settings to promote safe and appropriate conduct.
- Assist students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the public.
- Perform physical assistance to handicapped students like lifting, positioning, or personal hygiene assistance.
- Monitor need for first aid and refer injured or ill students for treatment.
- Locate, prepare, and modify materials for student use under the direction of certificated staff.
- Prepare, duplicate, collate, and distribute materials; operate office equipment.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Hold high school diploma or its equivalent
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment OR AA degree or higher OR Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution OR Completion of registered apprenticeship program provided by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries OR Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
- Complete Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire
- Successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate of the state mandated Paraeducator Certificate Program
- Fingerprinting and background check
- Complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following: successfully passed ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, AA degree or higher, 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution, completion of registered apprenticeship program by Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries, or successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
