About This Role

Lead and support paleontological surveys, excavations, and analysis for infrastructure and environmental projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and thoughtful integration of paleontological resources into project planning.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive paleontological surveys and excavations at project sites to identify, document, and preserve resources
• Analyze collected specimens and data to determine the significance of findings and their impact on project plans
• Prepare detailed reports on paleontological findings, including site assessments, excavation results, and preservation recommendations
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and environmental specialists to integrate paleontological considerations into project designs
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations regarding the protection of paleontological resources
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior paleontologists and interns
• Stay current with advancements in paleontology and related fields through continuous learning and professional development

Requirements

• Master's or Doctorate degree in Paleontology, Geology, or closely related field
• 5-7 years of experience in paleontological research (civil engineering or environmental consulting preferred)
• Proficiency in identifying and analyzing fossil specimens
• Proficiency in conducting field surveys
• Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and reporting
• In-depth understanding of paleontological preservation laws and regulations
• Understanding of best practices for integrating paleontological considerations into engineering projects
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to think critically and solve complex problems
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Valid driver's license

Qualifications

• A Master's or Doctorate degree in Paleontology, Geology, or a closely related field
• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in paleontological research, preferably within the context of civil engineering or environmental consulting
