Serve as a unit secretary for the OB unit and assist Registered Nurses with patient care within the scope of practice, which includes patient transport, ambulation, and other duties.
Responsibilities
- Answer phones and intercom promptly and courteously
- Maintain patient census, bed boards, and room assignments, logging mother and baby information and tag numbers
- Maintain communication booklet and record/type monthly meeting minutes
- Assist with ordering department supplies, completing daily unit stock list, and stocking blanket warmer and IV trays
- Enter vital signs and patient diets into the electronic medical record, and complete online birth scores
- Ensure nurse stations are clean and orderly, hallways free of clutter, and perform generalized department cleaning including trash and linen removal
- Assist with room setup and cleanup for deliveries and circumcisions, and clean/return isolettes
- Transport labeled specimens to the lab
- Monitor daily temp trak
- Assemble new patient charts and prepare charts for discharge
- Complete monthly unit inspection and provide to nurse manager, daily chart checks, and collect/provide monthly OB statistics
- Record deliveries in registration books and collect birth certificate data
- Provide assistance with postpartum patient care, including newborn care (bathing, weighing, feeding, diaper changes, documentation of intake/output) and newborn photos
- Perform hearing screens for newborns and record appropriately
- Perform simple procedures as per hospital policy (e.g., TPR, BP) and maintain accurate records
- Escort mother and infant to vehicle at discharge and make follow-up calls/schedule appointments
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire
- Computer skills and ability to accurately enter data into the electronic medical record
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of patient care experience

- Certified Nursing Assistant
- Certified Surgical Technologist
Certifications
