The Nurse Practitioner 2 will provide comprehensive perioperative care under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, advocating for patient optimization, smooth hospital courses, and return to normal life activities. This role involves managing patients from pre-operative planning through post-procedure follow-up, coordinating with various healthcare providers and departments.
Responsibilities
- Perform histories and physicals
- Conduct pre-operative planning and coordination with anesthesia, outside providers, and PCPs
- Respond to changes in patient status
- Provide needed prescriptions, evaluations, referrals, and treatments as permitted under standardized procedures
- Provide home health services and DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, and PT
- Order radiographic or diagnostic requests and specialized treatment as approved
- Provide patient education and arrange follow-up appointments
- Engage in approved privileges after competency for independent practice and procedural activity has been achieved
Requirements
- California RN License
- California Nurse Practitioner License
- ACNP/AGACNP Certification
- Current Active, Unrestricted Furnishing License
- DEA Registration
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
- NP National Board Certification
- At least 6 months of NP experience
- Ability to adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies concerning PHI
Qualifications
- At least 6 months of Nurse Practitioner experience. Prior and relevant Perioperative/Peri-anesthesia experience, prior ambulatory care center experience, and prior ICU experience preferred.

- Successful completion of UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility with healthcare personnel and administrators
- Customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Demonstrated ability to independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic problems
- Skill to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Ability to be trained in specialized medical equipment and procedures
- Ability to assess pediatric patients within scope of NP practice and license certification
- Prior and relevant Perioperative/Peri-anesthesia experience
- Prior managing patients in an ambulatory care center experience
- Prior ICU experience
