The Nurse Practitioner will assess, diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within their specialty area of practice, contributing to health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. This role involves independent clinical practice, patient documentation, and collaboration with physicians and health teams at Mount Sinai Doctors-Brooklyn Heights.
Responsibilities
- Assess the health status of patients/families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
- Initiate and order selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
- Prescribe medication regimens, interpret findings, and alter plan of care according to accepted standards
- Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
- Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
- Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
- Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
- Maintain patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
Requirements
- At least two years of nursing experience in area of specialty practice
- New York State License with current registration as a registered nurse
- Certified by the New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration
- Graduate of New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent OR certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination
- Completed a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or the equivalent AND instructed in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
- Master's degree program designed to prepare a NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient's condition
- Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (may be deferred up to 1 year)
- Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
Qualifications
- Master's degree program designed to prepare a NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient's condition that fall within their specialty area of practice or the successful completion of an approved supplemental education program, i.e., post-Masters NP certificate.
- At least two years of nursing experience in area of specialty practice, with at least one year of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred. Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice is required.

- Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3600 hours experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner
