This Nurse Practitioner Fellowship offers a new Cardiology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship, accepting one fellow in its first year. This program is for nurse practitioner students who are graduating soon or Nurse Practitioners with limited clinical experience, committed to developing expertise in cardiovascular care.
Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in cardiovascular pathophysiology with an understanding of pharmaceutical, procedural, and surgical treatment options
- Use evidence-based medicine practices to ensure quality, cost-effective care
- Educate patients and families regarding cardiovascular disease while gaining sensitivity to the patient’s emotional, physical, spiritual, and cultural needs
- Develop organizational skills to manage a patient caseload
- Develop effective communication and presentation skills as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Perform physical exams and formulate plans of care in collaboration with supervising provider
- Manage an inpatient caseload using organizational skills
Requirements
- Graduation from a DNP accredited program by July 1, 2026
- Board eligible for the AGACNP, AGPCNP or FNP certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Illinois RN license by May 1, 2026
Qualifications
- DNP degree by the start of the program
- 5 years or less of clinical experience, or currently enrolled in DNP program
