This role involves performing structural and rotor dynamic analysis for rotating equipment and pressure vessels within the nuclear industry, optimizing mechanical product design according to specifications and standards, and ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of results.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural, thermal and vibration engineering analyses on pressure vessels and rotating equipment
- Evaluate the impact of design modifications on structural design
- Define critical dimensions of products and components
- Execute different types of mechanical analysis and reporting, including torsional and lateral analysis
- Perform evaluation utilizing classical methods of structural analysis, thermal analysis, and hydraulic analysis
- Carry out finite element analysis (FEA) of machine components, sub-assemblies and related support structures
- Review and evaluate customer specifications and supplier quotations related to technical acceptability of mechanical design
- Assess FEA results against customer specifications, industry and Flowserve design standards and procedures for fatigue life and dynamic stability
- Submit high-quality contractual documentation in accordance with customer/industry code requirements, such as ASME
- Compile design reports in compliance with ASME Section III and VIII Divisions 1, 2 and 3 code requirements
- Plan, direct, coordinate and perform structural engineering activities in accordance with customer requirements and within budget/timeline
- Manage structural design activities to achieve optimum cost effectiveness, quality, design, and manufacturing while adhering to engineering standards
- Participate in design reviews and communicate with internal/external stakeholders on analysis progress and results
- Conduct or participate in Root Cause Analysis to define corrective and preventive actions
- Support and participate in quality audits
- Technical lead of R&D projects dedicated to modify and develop product upgrades
- Develop design tools for product design modification
- Automate the design and analysis process to improve analysis time
- Provide management with accurate and informative reports and evaluate project results with recommended actions
- Participate in improvement and standardization activities such as Green Belt, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Share information, knowledge and experience within Flowserve
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 8+ years in applied structural mechanical analysis, specifically rotating equipment
- Nuclear Industry experience
- P.E. license
- Background working within a customer-oriented working environment
- Extended knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Finite element analysis packages (ANSYS/ABAQUS), and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks)
- Skilled at performing hand calculations and/or rough order of magnitude calculations
- U.S. citizen or Green Card Holder
- Fluent in the English language
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 8+ years in applied structural mechanical analysis, specifically rotating equipment
