This professional position drives sustainable and strategic urban development for Indian River County, leading high-profile urban planning projects to enhance growth and resiliency. The role focuses on neighborhood and corridor studies, utilizing data analysis to inform planning decisions and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of plans review staff during the review process for development, site, and planned unit development plans.
- Provide high level engineering review of land development plans and permit applications (Land Development, Stormwater, Right-of-Way) to ensure compliance with standards and IRC Code requirements.
- Offer professional guidance and direction to developers and consultants on proper project development.
- Direct staff performing engineering inspections for site plan, land development, and right-of-way projects.
- Review plans for construction within County Rights-of-Ways for compliance with County standards and provide recommendations for Permit issuance.
- Coordinate pre-application conferences and monitor staff activities and operations of the Land Development section.
- Assist the Zoning Division with reviewing binding concept, binding site, planned unit development, and preliminary development plans.
- Implement and coordinate inter-department review of plans, compile comments, and notify applicants of results.
- Coordinate final reviews on all site plan submissions prior to final approval, a prerequisite for building permits.
- Coordinate the review and permitting process for enforcing site development ordinance and collect and account for all fees received by the Division.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field
- 5+ years of professional urban planning experience
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Valid Florida driver's license
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field from an accredited university
- At least five (5) years of professional urban planning experience, with a proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Two (2) Years Of Supervisory Experience Is Preferred.
