National Underwriter

About This Role

This National Underwriter role leads national transactions for a NY Title insurance company, serving as the primary contact with national underwriters and customers. The position involves facilitating discussions and negotiations on title insurance coverages for commercial transactions across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with national underwriters and SU to underwrite, direct, and oversee all aspects and phases of the title insurance process on large and complex national commercial real estate transactions.
• Independently and proactively identify potential title insurance coverage issues on transactions and work with national underwriters and other transaction parties to negotiate solutions.
• Work with the accounting department to facilitate, oversee, and coordinate the escrow, closing and settlement processes on commercial real estate transactions.
• Independently review all transaction-required documentation, such as deeds, security instruments, affidavits, organizational and authority documents, releases, etc., necessary for title policy issuance.
• Independently facilitate all aspects of the closing, including confirming/seeking underwriting approval for curative proofs and closing documents.
• Independently anticipate title issues and direct team members to proactively solve time sensitive issues that advance the deal to closing.
• Review survey and zoning coverage requirements to issue title coverage; and provide final comments/review/approval to survey reading.
• Negotiate and calculate title premiums and fees on commercial real estate transactions.
• Provide additional necessary support to production and operations with orders and other customary matters.
• Mentor other support personnel involved in the transaction.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5-10 years of national underwriting experience
• Experience with multi-state, multi-property commercial title projects
• Experience with National Commercial matters, licensed and workshare model
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of commercial real estate and title insurance

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-10 years of national underwriting experience
