Music Teacher Intern

About This Role

Assist mentor teachers in delivering music education to K-8 students in New York City public schools. Lead assigned classes, help with school-wide concerts, and manage classroom logistics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and teach classes assigned by the Music Teacher-Mentor
• Assist with school-wide concerts, including leading rehearsal, conducting one song, and managing logistics
• Assist with managing student behavior to maintain an optimal learning environment
• Help record student progress toward learning goals using ETM benchmarks and rubrics
• Assist with creation and maintenance of visually engaging bulletin boards and a print-rich classroom
• Provide support and reinforce classroom procedures and routines
• Participate in ETM music teacher professional development training sessions
• Commit to growing as a music teacher to be culturally responsive to students and communities
• Maintain timely, responsive, and constructive communication with ETM and school staff
• Create and maintain a portfolio including a weekly observation journal and unit plan
• Assist Mentor Teacher to keep accurate records and maintenance of materials and instrument inventory (if supporting Ensembles)
• Lead pullout lessons and ensemble rehearsals (if supporting Ensembles)

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Music/Arts or Related Field
• 1 year of teaching experience or student teaching experience
• Ability to model quality singing in front of children
• Sound musical knowledge
• Knowledge of musical pedagogy practices
• Advanced musical notation and theory literacy
• Ability to walk up several flights of stairs and lift up to 15 lbs of equipment
• Authorized to work in The United States without requiring sponsorship

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a Music/Arts or Related Field
• 1 year of teaching experience or student teaching experience

Nice to Have

• Master’s in Music Education or Related Field
• 2 years teaching groups of children in a classroom setting
• Advanced vocal or instrumental performance capabilities, particularly guitar, piano, or voice
• Conducting experience
