About This Role

The Mohs Technician will assist the Mohs surgeon by preparing and processing histologic specimens to ensure high standards of patient care and laboratory accuracy. This role involves maintaining quality controls and adhering to regulatory agency standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare and process histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation.
  • Maintain appropriate quality controls and ensure department compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment in good working order and troubleshoot problems.
  • Work with the Mohs surgeon to resolve quality control, patient, or procedural issues.
  • Order supplies related to the defined area.
  • Float between clinical and pathology duties as needed.
  • Electronically scribe Mohs documentation into patients’ charts via Mohs Map.
  • Assist with preparing patients for exams and procedures, sterilize equipment and instruments.
  • Provide education to patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions.
  • Maintain an extremely high level of confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as a Mohs Surgery Technician (within the past 5 years)
  • Proficiency in applicable computer software
  • Commutable to all Aspire offices as needed
  • Influenza vaccination
  • Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols
  • Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers professionally
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in histotechnology, medical technology, biological sciences or related field; or, a certificate of successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience (within the past five (5) years) as a Mohs Surgery Technician.

  • Maintenance of ASCP Histotechnician (HT) certification
