Middle School Social Studies Teacher

About This Role

Provide appropriate learning activities and experiences in Social Studies for middle school students to foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop and implement curriculum goals while managing a classroom conducive to learning.

Responsibilities

• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests
• Prepare lessons incorporating accommodations for individual differences
• Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations
• Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
• Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required
• Maintain and improve professional competence through staff development and meetings
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Meet Texas 'highly qualified' standards
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
