The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Middle School Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, focusing on inquiry-based learning, hands-on experimentation, and the scientific method. This role requires an educator who can spark wonder in middle schoolers and guide them through foundational science principles.
Responsibilities
- Teach four sections of Middle School science, including laboratories, utilizing a curriculum emphasizing the scientific method, data analysis, and laboratory safety
- Serve as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development
- Guide students in developing critical thinking skills through observation, hypothesis testing, and clear communication of scientific findings
- Fulfill an additional "plus one" requirement (e.g., coaching, club, or affinity group leadership)
- Provide extra academic support for students during flex, community times, conference period, or designated help sessions
- Participate in all required faculty meetings, department collaborations, middle school project week, and professional development activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science) or Science Education
- Broad understanding of Middle School science standards
- Ability to translate complex concepts into age-appropriate, engaging lessons
- Strong interest in or experience with student-centered, inquiry-based teaching models
- Deep understanding of Middle School developmental needs
- Commitment to cultivating a culture of belonging and designing an inclusive classroom
- Interpersonal skills to build a supportive community and work cross-functionally
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willingness to pivot instructional strategies
- Proficiency in educational technology, including Google Suite, digital lab probes/sensors, and learning management systems (e.g., Veracross)
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science) or Science Education required; an advanced degree is preferred
