This role involves evaluating and assessing the mental health risks of inmates at the Pierce County Detention and Corrections Center. The specialist will work within an integrated team to ensure appropriate care for mentally ill inmates.
Responsibilities
- Triage and prioritize referrals for mental health care based on emergent level of need
- Provide risk assessment and brief crisis stabilization services
- Work with outside agencies on release planning and community follow-up
- Determine appropriate housing needs within the PCCDCC for individuals with mental disorders or developmental/intellectual disabilities, and upon release/transfer
- Assess substance use involvement and make appropriate referrals
- Assess the need for psychiatric medication and make referrals to providers
- Make involuntary treatment referrals when necessary before inmate release
- Participate in a rotating call assignment to ensure 24-hour mental health coverage
- Coordinate care with a multi-disciplinary team of treatment professionals within the PCCDCC
- Provide education to medical and corrections staff to facilitate cross-system coordination
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field
- Current license or associate license in Washington State as a LMHC, LMFT, LASW or LICSW
- 2+ years experience providing psychosocial/mental health or crisis intervention services in an adult mental health setting
- United States citizen, lawful permanent resident or DACA recipient
- Ability to speak, read and write English
- Ability to successfully complete a Pierce County Sheriff's Office background investigation
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Two years experience providing psychosocial/mental health services and/or crisis intervention services in an adult mental health setting.
