The Mechanical Inspector/Plans Examiner role involves inspecting construction development and reviewing construction plans to ensure compliance with City Ordinances, the Florida Building Code, and other agency regulations. This position ensures public safety and welfare by enforcing local, state, and federal laws during all phases of construction.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections and plan reviews in accordance with the Florida Building Code and other applicable regulations.
- Schedule and conduct inspection appointments with customers.
- Meet with customers to discuss and resolve code violations and provide interpretations of city codes.
- Investigate complaints regarding work conducted without permits or unsafe structures.
- Review and interpret blueprints and specifications for construction plans and designs.
- Identify compliance problems, issue code violations, and perform re-inspections to ensure corrections are made.
- Maintain and update all files, documents, records, and reports related to inspection activities and findings.
- Communicate with the Building Official on unresolved code issues or regulatory requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and regulatory developments and attend continuing education courses for re-certification.
- Provide assistance and support to other inspectors with complex issues and research state and federal codes.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain a Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record by hire date
- Possess a current State of Florida License or Certificate of Competency as an A/C or Mechanical Contractor (for Inspector I)
- Ability to obtain a provisional certificate as a building inspector from the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board within 45 days
- Ability to obtain a standard certificate as a building inspector from the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board within one year
- Meet the certification requirements of Section 104 of Chapter 1, Broward County Administrative Provisions for the 2020 FBC (6th Editions) (for Inspector II/Plans Reviewer)
