Install, repair, and maintain marine navigation and communication equipment on commercial vessels, applying electronic theory and troubleshooting skills to ensure operational readiness. Support the equipment sales process by identifying and engaging prospective customers.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair and maintain marine navigation and communication equipment onboard commercial vessels
- Service marine equipment including Radars, ECDIS, VDRs, Satcoms, HF and VHF Radios, GPS, Gyrocompasses, Autopilots and Sounders
- Use knowledge of electronic theory and circuitry to address technical problems
- Load and update manufacturer’s software, backup computers, retrieve data
- Inspect, adjust, align, replace and repair electronic equipment using soldering tools, hand/power tools, and electronic test instruments
- Support equipment sales by identifying prospective customers and generating leads
- Contact new and existing customers to discuss marine NavComm needs
- Accurately complete service reports and provide all necessary related information using a mobile Field Service application
Requirements
- Completion of a two- or three-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer engineering technology, or an equivalent
- 24-36 months of experience working as a Maritime Field Service Technician
- Computer networking knowledge (Ethernet, serial communications protocols)
- Knowledge of marine navigation equipment (radars, gyrocompasses, autopilots, ECDIS, GMDSS)
- Strong knowledge of electronics theory and application
- Basic AC/DC electrical theory
- Ability to use DVM, oscilloscope, and other test equipment
- Fluent in English (spoken & written)
- Authorized to work in the US
Qualifications
- Two- or three-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer engineering technology, or an equivalent
- 24-36 months of experience as a Maritime Field Service Technician in commercial industry, fishing industry, USCG, or Navy
