About This Role

This role provides oversight and direction to improve special education evaluation processes and academic instruction for students receiving special education services. It involves collaborating with staff, parents, and the community to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate special education and related services evaluations and report writing.
  • Provide oversight for elementary and secondary special education programming and services.
  • Direct special education recommendations to ensure effective outcomes for students.
  • Develop effective systems to build District capacity to support students with challenges in the least restrictive environment.
  • Evaluate and provide research-based special education curriculum resources.
  • Ensure the provision of guidance and support to campus administrators regarding specially designed instruction.
  • Manage the coaching, supervision, and evaluation of assigned special education administrators and central staff.
  • Lead the department's effort to establish effective operating procedures and quality assurance audits.
  • Collaborate with 504, Dyslexia and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) departments to ensure proper implementation of IDEA child find and FAPE requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of department, local, and federal budgets.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of best practices for special education evaluation, services, and programming for students from EC to 18+
  • Knowledge of legal requirements related to special education programming
  • Ability to evaluate special education programs, services, and effectiveness of service providers
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across departments
  • Ability to resolve conflict and effectively manage complex situations
  • Ability to interpret policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data and its implications for the education of students receiving special education services
  • Ability to effectively manage budget and personnel

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience as a teacher or professional in special education or related field, and minimum of three years of successful educational administrative experience.
