Manager - Protection and Controls Engineering

About This Role

This role involves planning, coordinating, and managing engineering and design activities for protective relays and associated systems within the transmission system in Eastern Massachusetts. The manager will lead a team, ensure project adherence to company goals, and support system reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the work activities of personnel assigned to the EMA Protection & Controls Engineering section
• Ensure projects align with Transmission and Distribution Engineering and Eversource goals and objectives
• Develop employees through performance management, coaching, and rotational assignments
• Manage the planning and execution of transmission and distribution projects involving system protection, controls, SCADA, and disturbance monitoring equipment
• Ensure designs and settings comply with regulatory (NPCC, ISO-NE) and Eversource standards
• Support P&C system reliability improvement efforts and ensure corrective actions are taken
• Manage the writing of protection system contributions to engineering descriptions and substation operating instructions
• Manage Department expense and capital budgets
• Manage outside engineering vendor resources to achieve the T&D capital plan

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of protective relaying
• Detailed knowledge of transmission and distribution power systems engineering and operation
• Supervisory and business planning skills
• Working knowledge of information technology and Eversource office automation and information systems
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Minimum of ten (10) years related experience with P&C engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Minimum of ten (10) years related experience with P&C engineering, with at least three years in management or leadership capacity preferred

Nice to Have

• Degree in Electric Power Engineering
• Strong knowledge of ASPEN Short Circuit Modeling Programs
• Familiarity with Doble PowerBase Database tools
• At least three years of experience in management or leadership capacity
• PE License
