About This Role

The Manager - Laboratory Operations will share management responsibility for the day-to-day operations of laboratory equipment and enforce standard operating procedures and programs for laboratory safety at Alexandria LaunchLabs site in Stanford Research Park. This role supports LaunchLabs member companies in the San Francisco Bay Area by providing exceptional laboratory operations and management support within a dynamic life science and biopharma ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Share management responsibility for day-to-day operations of Alexandria-owned and on-loan laboratory equipment.
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures and programs for laboratory safety, training, chemical inventories, audits and permits, and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for safety training, permits, incidents, and equipment maintenance.
  • Train and assist members in the use of shared laboratory equipment and coordinate vendor training.
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies and gases.
  • Support and grow the LaunchLabs laboratory safety program.
  • Manage chemical and biohazard waste in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with general site operations including package management, IT/AV troubleshooting, and facilities request triaging.
  • Interface with Alexandria Asset Services teams and vendors for operational services.
  • Develop and promote laboratory sustainability initiatives and educate member companies.
  • Manage select vendor relationships.
  • Support the Laboratory Director with member meetings and orientations.
  • Assist the LaunchLabs team in planning, marketing, and hosting local ecosystem and strategic programming events.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of combined experience in a science-related organization or laboratory space
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Completion of or eligibility for relevant DOT, IATA, OSHA, Biosafety, and Chemical Safety trainings
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. or more
  • Familiarity with and capability for handling hazardous materials safely

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 5 years of combined experience in a science-related organization or laboratory space, preferably in a collaborative or shared working environment.
