Mainframe DB2 Systems Programmer

About This Role

This role involves mainframe DB2 systems programming, including upgrading and migrating DB2 versions, managing DB2 IVS Products, and performing database administration on z/OS. The position requires extensive experience in maintaining and optimizing DB2 environments to ensure performance and security.

Responsibilities

• Upgrade and migrate DB2 versions to newer versions
• Regularly apply PTFs and APARs as required
• Manage DB2 IVS Products and upgrade to supported versions
• Manage system catalogs
• Manage application data and database environments, performing reorganizations to optimize performance
• Utilize offline utilities such as DSNJLOGF, DSNJU004, DSNJU003
• Manage database and related object security, including user IDs, rights, and privileges
• Perform DB2 administration on z/OS, SQL creation, and DB2 command line execution
• Conduct DB2 performance tuning
• Define physical database (DDL) and understand logical database design
• Implement DBDC (CICS, DB2, or IMS) base software installs and upgrades
• Implement DBDC (CICS, DB2, or IMS) related product installs and upgrades
• Implement DBDC (CICS, DB2, or IMS) security compliance corrections
• Monitor threads, table spaces, and index spaces
• Monitor instances for events and handle resolution/escalations
• Perform performance tuning for database and SQL
• Execute DB2 recycle operations
• Perform DB2 Image copy (full/incremental)
• Manage database creation
• Grant and revoke authorities
• Manage DB2 archive logs
• Set up DR through various synchronization methods
• Build and maintain database and related objects like table spaces, tables, indexes, views, and triggers

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in mainframe DB2 systems programming
• Experience with DB2 version upgrades and migrations
• Proficiency in applying PTFs/APARs
• Experience managing DB2 IVS Products
• Ability to manage system catalogs and application data
• Knowledge of DB2 offline utilities (DSNJLOGF, DSNJU004, DSNJU003)
• Strong skills in database security management (user IDs, rights, privileges)
• Extensive experience with DB2 administration on z/OS, SQL creation, and command line execution
• Expertise in DB2 performance tuning
• Understanding of physical database definition (DDL) and logical database design
• Experience implementing DBDC (CICS, DB2, or IMS) software installs, upgrades, and security compliance
• Proficiency in monitoring DB2 components (threads, table space, index spaces)
• Experience with DR setup through various synch methods
• Ability to build and maintain database objects

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 to 20 years of experience
