Machine Operator

About This Role

Set up and operate metal fabricating machines, such as brakes, presses, and shears, to cut, bend, and form metal while ensuring quality and safety in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation
• Select, position, and secure tooling and fixtures onto machine
• Position and clamp stops, guides, and turntables
• Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors such as pressure and depth of ram stroke, adjustment rolls, blade angle, and machine speed
• Locate and mark bending or cutting lines and reference points on workpiece
• Position workpiece against stops and guides or align layout marks with dies or cutting blades
• Start machine and observe operation to reposition workpiece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes
• Inspect or measure work and label parts for storage
• Document deviations from prints or specifications and take appropriate corrective action
• Wear all required PPE and follow applicable safety/environmental rules, reporting work-related injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions
• Train new or existing employees if necessary

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, shorter correspondence, and memos
• Ability to wear all required PPE
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate and percent and interpret bar graphs
• Ability to read a scale and vernier calipers

Qualifications

• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Entry level with 3-6 months related experience or training

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of CNC software
• Ability to use a PC
