This LVN I role provides vital skilled nursing care, patient assessment, and medication administration to patients, ensuring high-quality care and contributing to medical research for a leading cancer treatment and research center.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records, including recent test and lab results and correspondence, and determining needed services and referral status
- Perform initial medical screening: Greet patients, direct to exam/procedure room, obtain weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, pain level, chief complaint, O2 saturation, and basic medical history
- Prepare patient for visit and alert physician when ready; provide updates, assist in rescheduling/follow-up, and inform about clinic policies and patient rights
- Perform general clerical duties: answer phones, photocopy, fax, type, and complete forms in support of the healthcare team
- Assist provider or nurse during patient examinations/procedures and practices universal precautions
- Maintain work station in accordance with PHI protection and perform routine quality checks of equipment
- Ensure clinical areas are organized to safety and quality patient care standards and collaborate with the healthcare team on problem-solving
- Maintain exam/procedure rooms by cleaning between patient exams and stocking supplies
- Administer medication via oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, sublingual, intramuscular, instillation, suppository, topical, and irrigation routes
- Administer immunizations understanding order from provider
- Perform basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, applications of simple dressing, perineal care, and urine tests
- Perform part of the triage process that includes interview, observation, the collection of subjective and objective data, and the recognition of problems or abnormal conditions specific to the patient
- Receive verbal, telephone, and written orders and enter them into the EHR
- Perform peripheral blood drawing (phlebotomy)
- Direct lab/test results to provider for review
- Perform patient education and provide healthcare instructions, documenting in the EHR
- Process instruments, supplies, and equipment according to established policies and procedures
Requirements
- High school graduate (or GED)
- Less than 1 year work experience as an LVN
- Accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse Program
- Current LVN licensure in the State of California
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association and maintain
- Board of Certificate and IV Therapy
