Library Director

About This Role

Lead the Milford Town Library by administering its operations, establishing policies with the Board of Trustees, and guiding staff to expand services and programs for the community.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain contacts with municipal departments and regional, state, and federal agencies
• Represent the library in inter-library and inter-agency affairs
• Develop the annual budget and assume fiscal responsibility for departmental activity
• Initiate grant proposals and other fund-raising efforts
• Establish long and short-term goals, objectives, and priorities
• Analyze output measures, create reports, and make recommendations to the Trustees
• Lead staff in developing and implementing programs and services for a diverse population
• Promote the library as an inclusive, welcoming community space
• Recruit, interview, select, train, and support staff with an emphasis on collaboration, accountability, and growth
• Provide general leadership and direction to staff, plan in-service training, and coordinate staff meetings

Requirements

• Knowledge of Massachusetts municipal operations and library funding structures
• Leadership/familiarity with unions
• Budget preparation experience
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and current library informational systems
• Proven ability to lead and motivate staff, manage budgets, and foster a team-oriented workplace

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (A.L.A.) accredited program
• Minimum of three (3) years as a Library Director or Assistant Library Director with supervisory experience in a public or academic library, including budgetary responsibilities.

• Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency
