Supervise a team of eight laboratory technicians, ensuring accurate and timely laboratory results while optimizing operations and maintaining compliance. This role involves managing laboratory instrumentation, resolving quality issues, and providing essential SHE leadership within the laboratory and across the site.
Responsibilities
- Supervise eight (8) laboratory technicians, ensuring engagement, timely and accurate results, and continuous efficiency improvements.
- Schedule overtime and manage vacation relief technician position to ensure value generation.
- Perform laboratory training and compliance certifications.
- Provide SHE leadership within the laboratory and the site, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- Manage, optimize, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
- Resolve non-conformances and work with customer fulfillment/supply chain on SAP batch management.
- Manage the lab SQC program for accurate and timely completion of routine and non-routine samples.
- Author new procedures, review, and revise existing ones.
- Ensure ISO 9001 and TCEQ compliance for the Bayport Laboratory.
- Work with business groups to resolve quality issues from customer complaints.
- Maintain LabWare LIMS and the laboratory infrastructure in good working condition.
- Manage purchasing accounts for vendors and suppliers, including laboratory materials and Direct Cost budgets.
Requirements
- BS degree in Chemistry or related STEM field
- 10+ years of experience in a refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing environment
- Keen computer skills with knowledge of MS Office
- Basic knowledge of PSM
- Process troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of a LIMS system (Sample Manager, LabWare, BLISS) with super-user experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of gas chromatography, distillation, TOC, benchtop laboratory methodologies
- Strong knowledge of ISO9001: 2015
- Experience in calibration, troubleshooting instrument issues, and analytical methods
- Laboratory instrumentation troubleshooting
Qualifications
- BS degree in Chemistry or related STEM field
- Minimum of 10 or more years of experience in a refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing environment.
