Laborer 2 - Construction

About This Role

Perform vital physical labor tasks on construction sites, operating various equipment and helping to prepare and maintain the worksite in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Identify and operate hand and power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, concrete mixers, small mechanical hoists, saws, power drills, skid steers, and forklifts
• Read and interpret construction plans, instructions, and specifications
• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, including rubble and debris
• Control passing traffic and signal Equipment Operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of equipment
• Assist Electricians with loading, transporting, unloading, and furnishing materials, tools, and supplies
• Restock worksite supplies and materials as necessary
• Identify and follow safe working procedures and stop unsafe work practices that present imminent danger
• Perform physical labor including digging ditches and trenches, backfilling excavations, sealing structural components, measuring and recording areas
• Unload and identify materials, assemble and erect equipment, pour concrete, and set braces to support excavation sides
• Assist Electricians with various tasks

Requirements

• 2+ years of general construction experience, including exposure to utility work, earth work, and/or concrete work
• Some experience operating equipment and hand tools
• Some experience with hoisting and rigging
• Exposure to trench safety, excavation safety, and other applicable safety standards
• Ability to pass a required drug screen and background check
• Ability to work overtime and some weekends as required
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to gain access to military installations and facilities if applicable
• Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools, materials, and other equipment used on construction sites
• Knowledge of excavation and backfilling methods, practices, and procedures
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures specific to labor work, including OSHA standards
• Full understanding of Laborer tasks to be performed on a job site and knowledge to complete tasks with little to no direction

Qualifications

• 2+ years of general construction experience, including exposure to utility work, earth work, and/or concrete work

• Medium voltage electrical or pipe laying experience
• Carpentry knowledge or skills
• Pipelaying or pipefitting knowledge or skills
• Surveying and grading knowledge or skills
• Concrete finishing knowledge or skills
