About This Role

Perform waived, moderate, or high complexity laboratory tests to assist in disease diagnosis and treatment. This role involves maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control, and may assist with point-of-care testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document clinical laboratory testing exercising independent judgment and responsibility
  • Note abnormal patient results and inform supervisor, pathologist, or principal investigator as appropriate
  • Operate laboratory equipment, interfaces and instruments, perform and document basic maintenance procedures
  • Perform routine logging for QC/QA purposes
  • Collect and compile QA data as directed
  • Monitor QC for trends and take and document corrective action as needed or directed
  • Perform troubleshooting procedures, identify testing problems and recommend appropriate solutions using defined guidelines
  • Actively participate in regulatory inspections
  • Take inventory as needed or appropriate
  • Order supplies for the Section/Department as directed
  • Assist with training of new staff and/or students
  • Serve as a liaison with internal and external customers/employees/clients
  • Participate in the POCT oversight program, including training, troubleshooting, and quality review
  • Collect specimens such as blood, urine, sputum and other body fluids and prepare for analysis

Requirements

  • Meet CLIA regulations for "Testing Personnel" for moderate and high complexity testing
  • Immunity to Hepatitis B or immunization/waiver
  • Recent tuberculosis (TB) test or immediate testing
  • Immunity or eligibility for rubella, rubeola, and varicella immunization (for direct patient contact roles)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited Institution OR equivalent education/experience per CLIA regulations
  • No experience required for Laboratory Scientist I role; minimum of 2 or 4 years direct clinical laboratory experience for LS II/III/IV.
