About This Role

Assist the Shoals Marine Lab with research projects by reviewing field and lab protocols, identifying fish otoliths, and maintaining a database of work.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate field and laboratory protocols for analysis of fish otoliths
  • Taxonomic identification of fish otoliths using microscopy
  • Take morphological measurements of otoliths
  • Take photographs of otoliths
  • Maintain and manage a database of work

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing

Nice to Have

  • Able to identify fish otoliths to species
  • Familiarity with Gulf of Maine fish community
  • Experience with microscopy
