About This Role

Perform essential kitchen staff duties on an as-needed basis for Opaa! Food Management, ensuring food quality, safety, and adherence to recipes and regulations. This role supports daily meal service for students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily set-up of serving lines, ensuring proper food holding temperatures and stocked milk coolers
  • Prepare foods according to menu plans and Opaa! recipes, and plan/prep for next day menus
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and grinders with proper certification
  • Maintain clean, neat, and organized work areas, including kitchen, cafeteria, equipment, and dishes
  • Organize inventory stock and practice First In/First Out (FIFO) procedures
  • Clean, monitor chemical usage, and maintain dishwashing equipment, storing clean dishes appropriately
  • Requisition food and supplies through the Kitchen Manager
  • Prepare baked goods as required by the menu plan and present them appealingly
  • Batch cook to maintain quality and excellent food presentation
  • Serve items with proper serving sizes and utensils, ensuring quality presentation and hospitality
  • Keep serving lines supplied with food items, napkins, silverware, and dishes
  • Ensure strict compliance with menu plan, Opaa! recipes, HHFKA, and CACFP regulations for meal service
  • Keep and maintain accurate daily production records per grade group
  • Follow HACCP processes and procedures, including daily food safety logs and temperature recording
  • Obey safety rules, report unsafe conditions, and participate in safety programs
  • Attend all required meetings, in-services, and complete yearly continued training hours
  • Handle customer monies, make change, and operate a cash register or computer
  • Complete necessary paperwork, tray counts, and meal reconciliation tasks daily

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred; or up to one month related experience, training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Up to one month related experience or training
