About This Role

Supervise jury operations and staff, working closely with Judicial Officers and courtroom staff to ensure the essential need for jurors is met. This role involves planning and administering activities within a court division and overseeing daily operations of a court services unit.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the work performed by staff serving in the courtroom
  • Plan, organize and supervise the examination, acceptance, and processing of non-judicial and court documents within the legal process unit
  • Monitor and review selected documents for accuracy, compiling statistical information and reports
  • Oversee the calendaring of cases, judicial assignments, and flow of case information within the court
  • Review new laws and develop or modify unit procedures accordingly
  • Provide information regarding court practices and procedures to attorneys, legal secretaries, County departments, and the public
  • Select, train, and evaluate employees; develop and conduct training programs
  • Plan and implement modifications in computer software
  • Liaison and coordinate work activities with other court divisions
  • Devise improvements in work methods and instruct staff; prepare procedural manuals

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience performing judicial support services including both legal document processing and court technical support activities
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures associated with civil, family law, probate, appeals, criminal, and juvenile cases
  • Knowledge of office and court administration practices
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices
  • Ability to supervise and direct staff
  • Ability to analyze, develop, write and recommend policies and procedures
  • Ability to promote teamwork among staff
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with legal community, staff, and the public
  • Knowledge of legal terminology
  • Knowledge of general computer software applications and usage

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in judicial administration, or closely related field
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience performing judicial support services including both legal document processing and court technical support activities; OR Two years performing the duties equivalent to a Santa Barbara County Judicial Assistant III
