About This Role

This Junior Underwriter position is responsible for centrally underwriting various types of loans, supporting BSNB's Retail Lending Department growth, and ensuring loan decisions comply with bank guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all underwriting requirements for loans including those sold on secondary market or put in REIT, and enter into appropriate software systems in a timely manner
  • Review files for all appropriate disclosures and additional required documentation, including them in commitment letters if needed
  • Obtain and review appraisals and all required documentation from the Branch/Loan Originator to support AU findings
  • Complete the URAR Appraisal Desk Review form and ensure any appraisal issues are resolved
  • Work closely with Loan Originators to provide assistance regarding product knowledge, pricing, and file requirements
  • Maintain timely communication with Loan Originators on loan status
  • Perform central underwriting of mortgages, direct and indirect consumer loans, home equities, mobile home loans, and instant money lines in conjunction with Senior Underwriter and Underwriters
  • Insure loan decisions are consistent with policy and recommend creative solutions for approval as applicable

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years' related experience in mortgage processing, mortgage origination, HELOC or consumer lending experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience in a customer service setting
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized and a self-starter
  • Knowledge of consumer lending regulatory and compliance guidelines
  • Knowledge of loan documentation, including ability to analyze credit reports and working knowledge of income calculations to determine credit worthiness
  • Knowledge of Reg Z and other regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • A.S. degree preferred, Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred
  • Minimum of three years' related experience in mortgage processing, mortgage origination, HELOC or consumer lending experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
