Job Captain

About This Role

This Job Captain position will play a key role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and code-compliant delivery of multi-site retail projects from design development through construction at MBH Architects' Alameda office.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Project Manager and help guide designers in producing and issuing accurate sets of construction documents and other client deliverables
• Coordinate with landlords, MEP, and Structural consultant teams to ensure complete and timely project delivery
• Lead, mentor, and train junior Designers
• Research, review, and implement CBC & IBC codes
• Address plan check comments from local jurisdictions
• Issue construction documents for bid and permit
• Perform site surveys & punch walks
• Perform job site visits to review the progress of construction; prepare and issue field reports
• Participate in various aspects of construction administration; respond to RFIs, revise drawings based on RFIs, bulletins, and addenda, and review submittals

Requirements

• Experience with retail rollout or multi-site commercial projects, including site adaptation of prototypical designs
• Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam
• Strong understanding of building codes, especially IBC, CBC, and ADA, with the ability to apply them effectively to drawing sets
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience leading coordination efforts with clients, consultants, and team members

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

• Working knowledge of SketchUp and Photoshop
• Experience delegating tasks to junior staff and conducting thorough QC reviews
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements in drawing production and team workflows
• Experience working within a multi-office, cross-time-zone firm structure
