About This Role

This internship program provides college students and recent graduates with practical vocational experience in civil rights advocacy, supporting the mission to enhance understanding of Islam, promote civil liberties, and empower American Muslims. Interns will contribute to various departments, focusing on professional development and leadership skills while addressing critical community needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing CAIR's youth programming with a focus on identity, civil rights, civic engagement, and social justice
  • Deliver objective-based programming and services by leading infrastructure building, data collection, research, and creating sustainable systems for grants
  • Assist attorneys and staff in providing legal assistance to clients to obtain immigration status or benefits, become a US citizen, or petition for relatives
  • Assist with daily operations such as coordination of staff meetings, trainings, and activities; greeting guests and interacting with patrons; and assisting with office organization projects
  • Focus on coalition building and community organizing aimed at challenging Islamophobia and violence in the region
  • Work with community members, documenting, and conducting research to assist with the resolution of civil rights cases
  • Assist in researching methods for donor growth and stewardship
  • Learn about the legislative process and the intersection of public policy and grassroots advocacy
  • Organize events sponsored by CAIR and assist with inquiries by members and guests
  • Assist with media requests, keep track of positive and negative coverage of Islam and Muslims in local media, and publish op-eds and press releases
  • Develop and maintain the CAIR-CA website and create designs, concepts, and layouts for publication of advertisements and other printed and graphic materials

Requirements

  • Must be college students pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree, or recent graduates (17 and older)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Passion and familiarity with the work that CAIR does
