About This Role

The Internal Audit Specialist is responsible for ensuring financial compliance and accuracy in accounting, as well as adherence to laws and regulations. This role involves performing internal compliance audits, analyzing financial transactions, and participating in process improvement projects within the Finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial, process, and compliance audits, including workpaper preparation.
  • Assist external auditors with year-end test work as required.
  • Audit energy efficiency and renewable energy incentive payments weekly and quarterly.
  • Draft audit reports and test financial controls to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Perform annual review of program implementation manuals.
  • Ensure adherence to non-profit and grant compliance rules and guidelines in accounting functions.
  • Proactively recommend improvements in financial and accounting processes, reporting, procedures, and policies.
  • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Document workflows and maintain up-to-date desk-level procedures for the internal control system.
  • Participate in various department projects and testing requirements.

Requirements

  • 3 years of internal audit or related experience
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Mural, and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to create efficient and accurate workpapers
  • Experience writing and documenting business processes
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3 years of internal audit or related experience in a professional environment, preferably within a non-profit organization.
