About This Role

This is a summer internship opportunity for students in science and engineering to contribute to the Technical Development organization at Moderna, focusing on designing manufacturing processes for mRNA medicines. Interns will work on high-performing project teams developing new manufacturing platforms and apply their skills to produce mRNA therapeutics and vaccines.

Responsibilities

  • Work with skilled experts to learn technology and techniques
  • Generate experimental results, perform data analysis, and document findings in formal reports
  • Perform process scale-up, support technology transfer, and provide manufacturing support
  • Participate in planning, design, execution, analysis of experiments and formal risk assessments
  • Optimize the impact of formulation and processing conditions on mRNA drug products
  • Review and share relevant academic literature and establish new collaborations
  • Create scaled-down models and high throughput experimental setups for unit operations
  • Characterize mRNA and lipid nanoparticles through collaboration with the analytical team
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings in cross-functional meetings

Requirements

  • Current student enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in a relevant science or engineering field
  • Strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills for experimental data evaluation
  • Laboratory skills applicable to bioprocess development and analytical methods
  • Work authorization in US and ability to maintain status without future sponsorship

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters program in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, Statistics, or a related field

  • GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and contribute to high performing teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
