Intern MLS

About This Role

The Medical Laboratory Intern performs expeditious and accurate routine clinical laboratory tests and basic clinical laboratory functions within a healthcare setting, supporting patient care through precise diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic supply inventory, calibration, reagent preparation, quality control checks, and preventative maintenance steps on assigned instrumentation.
• Initiate, follow through with, and document basic troubleshooting of equipment as necessary within established guidelines, or request assistance.
• Accurately perform routine tests and specimen collection utilizing established protocol.
• Communicate laboratory data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments and individuals in an accurate and timely fashion, including verbal and electronic means.
• Accurately perform basic to complex clinical laboratory tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment.
• Distinguish results of tests as being normal, abnormal, or unusual, and recognize test inconsistencies to take appropriate corrective action.
• Call critical test results to appropriate personnel immediately according to established protocol.
• Assess the validity of results which appear unusual or which may differ significantly from previous results or expected values.

Requirements

• Enrolled in an approved NAACLS schooling for MLS or MLT degree
