Information Technology Manager – Software Engineering

About This Role

One80 Intermediaries is seeking an experienced IT Manager – Software Engineering to lead a high-performing team in designing, developing, modernizing, and supporting custom enterprise applications. This role focuses on guiding teams while maintaining close involvement in architecture and delivery decisions, specializing in Java-based enterprise applications and modern front-end solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and technical professionals
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and architectural guidance across Java/Spring backend services, Angular front-end applications, and SQL-based data stores
• Own application-level design decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with long-term business needs
• Guide modernization initiatives, including refactoring legacy systems and evolving toward modular or service-oriented architectures
• Partner with product owners, business leaders, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear technical direction and delivery plans
• Promote engineering best practices such as code quality, testing, documentation, and technical standards
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt management and platform stability
• Support production issues as needed, fostering accountability, learning, and continuous improvement
• Leverage Azure cloud capabilities to support modern application architectures and scalable deployment models
• Ensure development teams are enabled with reliable build, deployment, and release processes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years in a technical leadership or people management role
• Strong hands-on experience with Java/Spring-based enterprise applications
• Experience with modern front-end frameworks (Angular preferred)
• Experience with relational databases (SQL Server or equivalent)
• Proven ability to lead development teams, guide architectural decisions, and deliver complex software solutions
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and operating in regulated environments
• Working knowledge of Azure and CI/CD concepts
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a technical leadership or people management role

• Experience within the insurance or financial services industry
