About This Role

Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot food processing equipment and production lines in a large-scale manufacturing environment, focusing heavily on mechanical systems with some electrical work. Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards while meeting production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and overhaul the plant's mechanical equipment
  • Troubleshoot to the component level, research manuals, identify and requisition replacement parts
  • Utilize technical skills and a team approach to problem solving during preventative maintenance activities
  • Meet production goals and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Use manuals, schematics, blueprints, test equipment, and diagnostic tools to identify problems
  • Interview operators, co-workers, and supervisors about equipment symptoms and failures
  • Observe equipment in operation to detect problems through sight or sound
  • Operate equipment to conduct pre-flight tests
  • Perform gas welding (oxyacetylene, torch brazing), and arc welding (stick, MIG, TIG), and gas cutting
  • Care for and operate hand tools, drill press, sanders, grinders, band saws, and torque wrenches

Requirements

  • Advanced experience with steam systems
  • Advanced experience with steam turbines
  • Advanced experience with evaporator processes
  • Advanced experience with gas fired boilers
  • Mechanical experience on pumps, motors, gearboxes
  • Knowledge of shafts, keys, keyways, pins, and shaft couplings
  • Knowledge of chains, sprockets, gears, and gear ratios
  • Knowledge of plain, ball, roller, thrust, liner, and guide bearings
  • Knowledge of lubrication types, viscosity, methods, storage, handling, and disposal
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment to the component level
  • Ability to use manuals, checklists, schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic tools
  • Familiarity with normal day-to-day equipment operation
  • Ability to make measurements with micrometers, scales, etc., and use mathematical equations
  • Understanding of designed use and limitations of all types of mechanical tools
  • Knowledge of properties, uses, measurement devices, and lockout requirements for pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and steam systems
  • Ability to perform gas welding (oxyacetylene, torch brazing) and arc welding (stick, MIG, TIG)
  • Ability to use an oxyacetylene cutting torch
