This Industrial Hygiene Specialist role is responsible for safeguarding workers from occupational and environmental hazards within the CITGO Lemont Refinery. The position applies scientific principles and industry standards to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards. It requires comprehensive knowledge of Industrial Hygiene activities and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Protect workers from occupational and environmental hazards through the application of scientific principles and industry standards
- Independently anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards associated with the work environment and refinery processes
- Interpret sampling data, conduct research, and make recommendations based on the hierarchy of controls
- Select appropriate control measures from the information contained in Safety Data Sheets
- Work extended hours including emergency call outs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, or related technical field
- Minimum two years of job-related experience
- Ability to interpret sampling data, conduct research, and make recommendations based on the hierarchy of controls
- Sound understanding of field sampling methods and instrumentation
- Ability to select appropriate control measures from the information contained in Safety Data Sheets
- Clear, concise and effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong aptitude for computer and various software applications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Able to wear additional personal protective equipment (respiratory protection, fall protection, chemical protective clothing, etc.)
- Able to work from elevated heights
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, or related technical field
- Minimum two years of job-related experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience in a refinery or petrochemical industry
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Safety Professional
