This role involves managing the inclusion process for assigned park districts, including assessing requests, placing, and supervising part-time inclusion staff. The coordinator will also organize, implement, and evaluate recreational programs for individuals with disabilities, applying specialized therapeutic training to ensure inclusive and adaptive activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage the inclusion process for assigned member park districts
- Assess inclusion requests
- Place and supervise part-time inclusion staff
- Organize recreational programs for individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Implement recreational programs for individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Evaluate recreational programs for individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Apply specialized therapeutic training to administer a broad delivery of recreation services
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge and/or training in therapeutic recreation, special education, adaptive physical education or a related field
- 2 years full-time experience in therapeutic recreation parks and recreation, special education, adaptive physical education or related field
- Knowledge of the recreational needs of persons with a disability without exclusion
- Valid Illinois class “D” Driver’s License
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree plus knowledge and/or training in therapeutic recreation, special education, adaptive physical education or a related field
- Two (2) years full-time experience in therapeutic recreation parks and recreation, special education, adaptive physical education or related field.
Nice to Have
- Ability to complete NCTRC or comparable certification within six months of employment
